Crime Stoppers: Waffle House Robbery
This is one of those Crime Stoppers cases where we have pictures, but they are not that helpful. The bad guy has covered himself and his distinguishing characteristics completely. We are hoping his loose lips will help bring him to justice.
To the Waffle House on Lee Highway we go. The crime happened in the early morning hours, two Wednesdays ago. We do not get a look at a vehicle, but regardless how he got there or left, the guy was up to no good. "I think he was waiting outside," Chattanooga Police Officer Tim McFarland explained, "took his opportunity with a minimal amount of people inside and was able to get away with some cash."
When he finally acted, it was quickly. Restaurant surveillance shows him inside with his gun drawn. "He demanded cash," said McFarland, "and actually robbed all the customers, as well, of their wallets."
There is not much to go on. We are looking for a black male about 6' tall with a medium build. He was wearing a black hoodie with khakis, gloves, and a blue bandana over his face. This crime happened just before 4:00 AM on Wednesday, March 25th. A couple of hours earlier, the Waffle House just a few miles away on Shallowford Road was hit, as well. It was said at the time, the two crimes may be connected. "He's getting pretty bold," McFarland said. "So, we need to try and put an end to this."
That is where you come in. Do you recognize this person? Have you heard anything? Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for a good tip in this case. "We're kinda hoping he was bragging online or maybe to some friends," Officer McFarland continued. "And, money does talk, sometimes. So, we're hoping it will today."
The number to Crime Stoppers is: 698-3333
A police officer may answer or return your call, but he will never ask your identity. "Unless they tell somebody after the fact," explained McFarland, "nobody will ever know."
