KNOXVILLE (News Sentinel) -

Dollywood's impact continues to grow Ahead of Dollywood's 30th anniversary, Dolly Parton challenged her team to come up with 30 or more areas to add something new, do something different or improve something at the Pigeon Forge amusement park.

"She wanted us to celebrate all year long," said Craig Ross, president of the Dollywood Company.

The legendary entertainer's challenge — to always be looking to improve guests' experience — is the foundation for what has made Dollywood a continuing success and catalyst for tourism in the region.

"Everybody loves to go someplace familiar but they like it served up in a very fresh way. Dollywood is great at that," says Susan Whitaker, who recently announced her departure from state government after serving as Tennessee's commissioner of tourist development for 12 years.
