UTC women net 2 nil scrimmage win over UA-Huntsville
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (GoMocs.com)--- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's team posted a 2-0 shutout Saturday afternoon in a friendly against the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
Chattanooga's two goals both came in the second half. Freshman Amanda Ortiz (Arlington, Tenn.) scored the first goal 10 minutes into the second on an assist from classmate Abby Linder (Germantown, Tenn.) and the Mocs' second score came with just 12 minutes to play.
Freshman Brandy Herrera's (Nashville, Tenn.) corner kick found junior Logan Higgins (Louisville, Ky.) for UTC's second and final score.
“Being that this was our last spring competition, it's a great way to finish up,” Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. “They have worked hard and progressed throughout the spring. We are looking forward to continuing in the right direction.”
The Mocs defense proved strong, not allowing a single goal to the host Chatgers.
“As a group we defended well,” McKinney said. “Anytime you keep a clean slate, it's a complete group effort from front to back.”
The Mocs close out the spring season 2-0-1, adding to their win over Carson-Newman earlier this season and a tie with King University at the King Spring Invitational last weekend.
