Community members pray over Avondale community

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of people walked and prayed over the Avondale community this afternoon to show the love of Jesus to the people this Easter weekend.

"No matter where we find ourselves, we were created in the image of God," said Melvina West. "We're not here to judge, we're just here to pray."

Their goal is simple. "I'm warmed by the spirit to know these people are here for one reason only, and that's to glorify god by going out and talking to people about who God is," said Danny Jones, Fellowship Christian Peace Officers.

It all started because of violence. "In October of last year we had three shootings, two murders; one other person was shot within 48 hours. I woke up that morning and knew I needed to do something and I truly believe you affect people for Christ, you can infect their mind," said Jones. "Turning people to Christ will turn them away from all of the other junk."

They hope with every step they take, with every mile they walk, that at least one person changes the path they're currently on.

"The message is Jesus loves you. No matter where you are, what you're going through. Whosoever, we're all whosoever, they're not too late. They're not too far down. He loves them," said West.

The group hopes to continue this practice on a frequent basis in various communities in Chattanooga.
