BREAKING: VCU AD in Indy at Final Four interviewing coaches, Mocs' Wade there as well

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -- Channel 3 learned on Friday that VCU Athletic Director Ed McLaughlin is in Indianapolis interviewing coaches at the Final Four where UTC Head Coach Will Wade is.

Sources also tell Ch. 3 that McLaughlin wants to replace Shaka Smart within one week and that Wade is on VCU's short list.

Much of the chatter involves Wade and another former VCU assistant Mike Rhoades who now coaches Rice.

It's unclear right now if Wade has interviewed with McLaughlin but all signs point to the two at least talking at some point soon.

In two seasons at UTC, Wade is 40-25 overall with a 27-7 conference mark. He was also named SoCon coach of the year in his first season at UTC.

Wade's contract at UTC is worth roughly $187,000 annually. Before Shaka Smart left for Texas, VCU was paying smart almost $1.6-million annually.

Our sources say that if Wade is eventually offered the VCU job, he will almost certainly take it.
