Jury duty scam

Posted: Updated:

The Chattanooga Police Department says they've received several complaints of a caller who claims to be a police officer, telling people that they will have warrants issued against them if they don't pay $3,400 for a failure to appear for jury duty.

The scammer then tells the potential victim that they can meet at a nearby grocery store, local business, or the steps of the court house after hours to resolve the debt.

A new detail on this scam; the victim is told to not involve other officers at the risk of being arrested.

The Chattanooga Police Department says they do not make such calls demanding payment.

Anyone who receives such a call is asked to contact the police department directly at 423-698-2525.
