Most of Friday stays dry and storm-free with partly cloudy skies and a high near 80° in the city.
A strong cold front is expected to produce thunderstorms across the Tennessee Valley, moving from northwest to southeast beginning in the late afternoon/early evening, then fading overnight. This line of storms affects all portions of the viewing area (TN, GA, AL, and NC). Some storms could become strong/severe, accompanied by damaging straight-line winds, large hail, and heavy rain. The risk for a tornado is low, but not impossible.
Right now the Storm Prediction Center has placed most of the Channel 3 viewing area in the Slight Risk zone with somewhat higher chances for severe storms in middle Tennessee and northern Alabama.
If you have a NOAA Weather Radio, please be sure the alert mode is turned on. Look for updates on air and online.
