CDC warns of "nasty" stomach bug

Posted: Updated:
Public health officials are warning a nasty stomach illness is spreading in the U.S.

It's called shigella bacteria.  It spreads easily and can cause diarrhea, stomach pain and fever.

The CDC has identified several large clusters of the illness in California, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

About half were associated with people who'd traveled to India or the Dominican Republic.

Doctors say many cases will go away on their own, and that the antibiotics should be reserved for severe cases.
