Collegedale gymnastics coach charged with felony

Posted: Updated:

A gymnastics coach has been charged with a felony after allegedly sending explicit images to an underage female on Snapchat.

Ari Thomas Guindon, 25, turned himself in Wednesday to Collegedale Police.

Guindon attended Southern Adventist University (SAU) majoring in Physical Education and was member of Gym-Masters, an acrobatic and gymnastics group at SAU.

SAU released a statement about the incident Wednesday afternoon:

On the evening of March 3, Southern Adventist University became aware of alleged inappropriate communications between senior physical education major Ari Guindon and two minors. Within minutes of notification, a faculty member contacted Guindon to discuss the allegations at which point Guindon was advised to seek counseling. The university continued its internal review of this situation and the student's enrollment status.

On March 5 Southern removed Guindon from any classwork which required interaction with minors, and that same day he was suspended from all courses related to teaching.

During ensuing days, Southern's Title IX coordinator was informed of the situation and the university's Campus Safety director advised the Collegedale Police Department about these allegations.

Currently, Guindon is no longer enrolled at Southern and is banned from presence on campus. The university's investigation is ongoing to determine the potential for further sanctions against the former student, and to ensure the future safety of Southern's students and those with whom our students come in contact.

Southern's Gym-Masters team and Gym-Kids programs are unconnected to these allegations. Guindon was a member of Gym-Masters, but any communications he had with the minors did not occur as a result of his athletic work for the university.
