Haslam-owned truck-stop company settles 4 rebate fraud cases

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Four trucking companies have settled lawsuits against the truck-stop chain owned by Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam.

The lawsuits claimed Knoxville-based Pilot Flying J fraudulently withheld fuel rebates and discounts from customers.

According to court records, National Retail Transportation Inc., Keystone Freight Corp., Shoreline Transportation of Alabama Inc. and Osborn Transportation Inc. all settled their lawsuits within the past four weeks.

F. Michael Haney is an attorney for Osborn. Reached by phone, he said he could not disclose any details of that company's settlement because they were confidential.

Civil suits against Pilot were mostly resolved in November 2013 by a class-action settlement in which Pilot agreed to pay nearly $85 million to 5,500 customers.

Three trucking companies are still suing Pilot in federal court.
