Soddy Daisy High wins Battle of Chickamauga High School Team Bass Classic

Dayton, TN (WRCB) - The team of Elijah Cartwright and Jacob Thomas from Soddy Daisy High School caught a 5 bass limit weighing 32.59 pounds, topping the field of  226 anglers to win The Battle of Chickamauga  High School Bass Classic held today, March 28, 2015, out of Dayton, TN. 

Cartwright and Thomas won $2000.00 in scholarship money and a $1000.00 gift card from Bass Pro Shop.   Soddy Daisy High School receives the honor of displaying the 2015 Battle of Chickamauga Championship Belt until the next event in 2016.

Finishing in second place was the team of A. J. Barnes and Gavin Ainslie from Chattanooga Central High School with a five bass limit weighing 29.54 pounds.

The duo also had big bass of the event with a giant largemouth bass weighing 10.01 pounds.

Second big bass of the tournament weighing 8.83 pounds was caught by the team of George Finch and Will Sabourin from Chattanooga Christian.

Third big bass of the tournament weighing 8.48 pounds was caught by the team of Jacob Mashburn and Ryan Winchester from Clinton High.

Bassmaster Elite Series Pro Ott Defoe was the keynote speaker on March 27th at the pre-tournament dinner. DeFoe, a Bassmaster Elite Series pro said, “I was very excited to be chosen to be a part of the Battle of Chickamauga.  High School Fishing is becoming such a large opportunity for today's youth, says DeFoe. It's something every student can enjoy and be a part of.  I enjoy sharing my passion for the sport with all of them.  And with the support of giants such as Bass Pro Shops, Pure Fishing and B.A.S.S, anglers can expect an experience of a lifetime”

High School Bass Fishing Teams are being formed all across the United States advancing the sport of bass fishing all the way to high school national championships.  The teams compete for their share of available scholarship monies and prizes in this new high school fishing format.

1. Soddy Daisy - Elijah Cartwright/Jacob Thomas - 32.59 lbs.                         
2. Chatt. Central - A. J. Barnes/Gavin Ainslie - 29.54 lbs.
3. Rhea County - Justin Wright/CodyGunter - 21.13 lbs. 
4. Rhea County - Wade Sneed/J.W.Gailor - 20.99 lbs. 
5. Walker Valley - Cole Sands/CadenWatson - 20.15 lbs.
6. Rhea County - Dillan Moore/Taylor Clark - 18.58 lbs.
7. Rhea County - Nathan Shaver/Jessie Hooker - 17.37 lbs.
8. Bloomington - Blake Albertson/Dylan White - 17.25 lbs. 

9. Bradley Central - Chris Wilson/Colton Morton - 16.01 lbs.  

10. Rhea County - Bransford Dean/Dustin Osborne - 15.93 lbs.
