UTC women's soccer head to King Spring Invitational
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (GoMocs.com)--- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team will head off to the King Spring Invitational this Saturday at King University.
The Mocs will open play at 2 p.m. against Carson-Newman and then take on host King at 4 p.m. Both matches will be 60 minutes with two 30 minute periods in a Round Robin format.
“This will be a chance for myself and Danny [McBride, assistant coach] to assess the squad and see us compete against outside competition,” Chattanooga head coach Gavin McKinney said. “Training well amongst each other is one thing. Being able to compete against other universities, will give us a more clear picture of where were currently are with this group of players. It will also give us a good vision of a specific direction of where we want to go for the rest of the spring leading into preseason camp in August.”
Chattanooga opened off season training in January with conditioning and individual skill sessions not to exceed eight hours per week. That expanded to 20 hours by the end of February.
“The girls are really excited to compete,” McKinney added. “We are getting that feeling from the squad. It's exciting when you get to go out and compete against another opponent and they are excited to try to prove themselves to us.”
Chattanooga's second scrimmage of the spring will be Saturday April 4 in Huntsville, Ala., against UAH.
