UPDATE: East Ridge Elem. employee suspended for alleged misconduct

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: An employee of East Ridge Elementary School has been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation by the Hamilton County Department of Education into alleged misconduct.

Channel 3 has confirmed a automated phone call went out to parents of East Ridge Elementary students on Thursday explaining an employee had been suspended and any one with questions could contact school administrators.

Stacy Stewart, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, tells Channel 3 the employee is a non-licensed educational assistant and the school system has received a report of alleged misconduct which is being investigated.

“Suspending an employee for allegations of misconduct is standard procedure,” said Stewart.

“This is for the protection of our students and our employees and is not an indication that the individual is guilty of the allegations. Any reported issues must be investigated thoroughly and fairly. ”

Stewart stated in an email to Channel 3 "At this time the school district does not have any evidence of a criminal act being committed."

Channel 3 checked with East Ridge Police. According to a spokesperson, the school falls in the department's jurisdiction, but the department has not been notified or asked to assist in the investigation.

The school has reported the incident to the Department of Children’s Services, as they are required.
