RED BANK, TN (WRCB) - A well-being check turned into a 4-hour standoff between police and a 46-year-old man.

The Red Bank Police Department was notified Thursday afternoon by a mental health official that after speaking with Linsey Rentzell by phone, a well-being check was needed.

When police arrived at the home on Hedgewood Drive, they spoke with Mr. Rentzell who became physically aggressive and refused to cooperate, hitting a deputy in the face. He then ran into the house and refused to respond to requests from law enforcement.

It was not known if Rentzell had weapons in the house so Hamilton County SWAT team was called for assistance.  After four hours of trying to get Rentzell to cooperate, officers enter the house and took him into custody.

He was taken to an area hospital where he will undergo a mental evaluation.

The investigation is ongoing by both the Red Bank Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, with charges pending.
