UPDATE: Two people shot on Windsor Street

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - Chattanooga Police are investigating the most recent shooting near two apartment complexes off Dodson Avenue.

Police believe it happened around the area of 2300 Windsor Street late Wednesday night, sending two people -- a man and a woman in their late 20's -- to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

"We're looking at all angles of it," said Lt. Glenn Scruggs. "We're looking at gang membership involvement or just domestic."

Windsor Street divides Woodlawn Apartments and Windsor Terrace apartments.

A sign out front warns residents that management authorizes police to come on the grounds and common areas at any time.

There have been multiple shootings in the vicinity over the past year.

In 2014, Channel 3 reported five shootings either in or surrounding the Woodlawn Apartment complex -- most of them involving teenagers.

"I know it's easy to label a place or label an area as a troubled area," Scruggs said. "But 99 percent of the time, that area is full of good folks. It's just one small percentage that's driving all the problems."

Police say that 0.5% of the population drives over half of the city's crime.

Several residents -- who were afraid to go on camera -- say they see patrol cars parked in the area on a regular basis.

But police say it's often non-residents causing neighborhood issues.

"A lot of times, you have a location -- an apartment complex or a neighborhood -- that for whatever reason, people from outside that area come to hang out and congregate. And then you'll have problems," Scruggs said.

CPD said there's already a police presence in the community with both marked and unmarked patrol cars, but do plan on increasing visibility over the next few days.
