UPDATE: City installs crosswalk at Avondale breakfast stop
CHATTANOOGA, TN (Times Free Press) -
A local couple who feeds kids at an Avondale bus stop was close to be shut down last fall but now the city has found a solution to make their operation a bit safer.
Chris and Dorothy Rolle dish out breakfast to more than 70 kids every morning but the school system had its worries about students crossing the street.
Last week, the city finished installing a new crosswalk equipped with flashing lights, two pedestrian-controlled push buttons and newly painted white stripes. Chris said it cost the city about $18,000.
"I see lights like this in downtown, on Signal Mountain, Lookout Mountain, Hixson, even out in Ooltewah but to have a light of this magnitude in Avondale. That speaks volumes!" said Dorothy.
The couple has been serving breakfast to kids outside their home for more than two years.
