Crime Stoppers: Attempted armed robbery at Subway

Posted: Updated:

What is it that makes a chain of sandwich shops so attractive to, many times, armed criminals? Subway restaurants, made famous by the ever-present and popular Jared and the catchy "five-dollar foot-long" jingle, also frequently appear in our Crime Stoppers reports. We began and ended 2014 with robberies at area Subways and have already featured another, this year.

The positive from this is trend is that the shops usually have very good video surveillance and the crystal-clear pictures could make it easier for you to collect a Crime Stoppers reward.

To the case in question: Sunday, at the Subway on Brainerd Road. It was about 7:30 in the evening, still bright daylight outside, when the bad guy entered the shop. He threatened the clerk with a silver handgun, demanding money, but something happened that spooked him. The crook took off running before he collected any cash.

The guy we are looking for covered himself well in a hoodie and something over his mouth, but he is said to be an 18 to 20 year old black male, about 5'7". At that age, there's still time to set him on the straight-and-narrow before he makes his lot in a life of crime. It would be a very good thing to lock him up before he can try again.

Up to $1,000 is available for your good tip. If you recognize our suspect or know anything about this crime, call Crime Stoppers: 698-3-3-3-3

A police officer may answer the phone or return your call, but he will never ask for your name.
