Chattanooga City Council votes to renew VRI contract

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - The Chattanooga City Council has voted to renew the city's contract with the violence reduction initiative, for less money.

The goal of the year old program is to curb violence on city streets. The contract is with the "National Network of Safe Communities" for the "focus deterrence project."

The same deal was inked last year for 40-thousand dollars more, Police Chief Fred Fletcher says the cost goes down as more experience is gained.

While some have questioned its effectiveness, others say it's working.
