Federal officials to assess damage from Tennessee ice storm

Posted: Updated:

CROSSVILLE, TN (AP) - Workers with the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be visiting areas of Cumberland County to assess the damage from last month's ice storm.

Cumberland County Emergency Management Director Keith Garrison told WBIR-TV (http://on.wbir.com/1HVnTxt) that a FEMA crew is expected to arrive Monday to begin reviewing the damage. He says the workers are expected to travel through some of the hardest-hit areas including Crossville and Pleasant Hills during their three-day stay.

The storm coated the Cumberland Plateau with ice in late February, bringing down trees and power lines. The station reports Volunteer Energy Cooperative's system sustained about $9.5 million in damages.
