(WRCB) - Good Monday.  We start the day with our area under a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for Chattanooga and surrounding areas, and WINTER STORM WARNINGS for some outlying counties.

The main threat this morning will be from sleet and freezing rain.  Temperatures will be in the upper 20s and low 30s.  Travel this morning will be extremely hazardous especially on untreated roads.  This afternoon, temps in the valleys will climb into the upper 30s and low 40s.  That means a cold rain through the afternoon.  In the mountains temps will stay in the low 30s and that would mean a continuation of sleet mixed in with some light snow.  This evening, temps will cool a bit and that would change us over to a wintry mix widespread.  All precip. would come to an end after midnight, but we could still see some ice on untreated surfaces Tuesday morning.

Tuesday will be cold and dry with lows in the 20s and a high of only 35.  Another front will move in Wednesday after a high of 36.  That front will bring some light snow showers to the area followed a serious blast of cold air Thursday morning.  Lows Thursday morning will drop into single digits with wind chills below zero to start the day.  Thursday's high will only reach 31.

Friday we could see a few more light snow showers as it remains bitterly cold.  The low Friday will drop to 15, and it will only warm to 35 Friday afternoon.

The weekend warms into the upper 40s, but we will still have a good chance of precipitation in the form of rain both Saturday AND Sunday. For the latest AND the interactive radar, download the WRCB weather app.     David Karnes
