(NBC) "Saturday Night Live" celebrates its 40th anniversary Sunday night with a big, star studded extravaganza.

Chevy Chase cranked it up forty years ago, and it's still going.

The show began as a counter culture phenomenon in the early years, survived turbulent times, and evolved into a comedy institution.

Dozens of former cast members and hosts will come back Sunday night.

It'll be the newest chapter in SNL's 40 year legacy.
