A Chattanooga man is charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated domestic assault after police say he attacked a woman with a knife.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Channel 3, Chattanooga Police were called to Cameron Lane Saturday afternoon to find a woman bleeding heavily from her face. The woman told officers she was meeting 35-year-old Dejuan Stephens so he could take their child when they got into a verbal argument. She said as Stephens took the child from her car he slammed the door on the hand of another child in the car.

The woman says she became angry and kicked the side of Stephens' vehicle and that is when she says Stephens put his hands around her neck and tackled her to the ground. She says she felt blood on her face and saw Stephens had an open pocket knife in his hand and he told her he was going to kill her.

When officers arrived Stephens told them he pulled a knife to defend himself. Stephens then admitted to police he did cut the woman on her face and said he "should have killed that (expletive)."

Officers noted a large gash to the woman's face and the back of her neck.

Stephens was arrested and is being held on a $100,000 bond for the attempted first degree murder charge.
