CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

UPDATE: Chattanooga police have identified the shooting victim as Mattena English, 28.

The investigation is still underway.

English was shot and wounded in the 900 block of Arlington Avenue, according to Chattanooga police.

Officers responded to a call of a person shot and found the woman when they arrived on scene just after 11 p.m. Thursday.

She was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Details are limited at this time. No suspect information has been released.

The mayor's Violence Reduction Initiative has focused on stopping the shootings using deterrence principles.

Many have questioned the program's success.

There have been at least 11 shootings so far this year. Compared to the same time last year, that's just one less.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 698-2525.
