Motor vehicle stop nets drugs in Cherokee Co.

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office arrested 29-year-old Michael Allen Petry of Murphy for probation violations and possession of drugs on January 26.

Investigators with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office became aware that probation warrants had been issued on Petry. Further information was made known that Petry was occupying a vehicle and was in the vicinity of the Valley Village Shopping Center. 

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, Petry jumped out and started running across the parking lot of the shopping center. Petry was taken into custody in front of Cross Fit of Murphy. 

During the search of Petry methamphetamine and items of paraphernalia were located and seized. Information obtained during the arrest of Petry indicated that he intended to sell the methamphetamine to make some money. 

Petry was taken to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office where he was booked on the following charges, Possession With the Intent to Manufacture/Sell Deliver Methamphetamine, Resisting Public Officer, Probation Violation and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Petry is currently being held on $10,000 bond in the Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting a February 11 Cherokee County District Court date.
