Cherokee Co. Sheriff's Office jail four men for possessing drugs

MURPHY, NC (WRCB) -

On January 31, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office arrested 19-year-olds Thomas Edward Thorley and Christopher Joseph Hobson, 20-year-old Brent Tyler Ledford,  and 22-year-old Matthew Gregory Watt for possession of drugs.

Deputies with the Patrol Division of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office were patrolling the Maltby area when a vehicle was observed committing a traffic violation. When the deputy made the stop of the vehicle, information was learned that Watt was on probation and the vehicle contained marijuana. 

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office K9 Ajax was brought to the scene and confirmed suspicions that there was marijuana in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle found a sizeable amount of marijuana in the vehicle and US currency both of which were seized. 

All four occupants were arrested and taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center.Thorley, Ledford, Hobson and Watt were all charged with possessing marijuana greater than 1/2 ounce to 1 1/2 ounces and possessing marijuana paraphernalia. 

Thorley, Ledford and Hobson were booked and released on $1,000 unsecure bond set by the North Carolina Magistrate.

Watt was booked and released upon posting a $1,000 secure bond also set by the North Carolina Magistrate. All four are scheduled to appear in Cherokee County District Court on February 18, 2015
