Highway 58 VFD responds to hazardous call

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - On Sunday afternoon, the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department responded to home on Short Tail Springs Road around 2:30 p.m. on reports of a leaking problem. 

Fire officials tell Channel 3, a couple walking their dog called 911 reporting a strange barrel leaking a blue substance in the waterway.

When fire officials arrived on the scene, they did see a 55 gallon barrel in the waterway but with no visible signs of a blue substance leaking in the water. 

The Highway 58 VFD requested a hazardous materials response to the scene and Hamilton County Hazmat teams responded to help assist and contain the 55 gallon barrel and remove it safely from the waterway. 

No injuries were reported. Hazmat officials confirmed the barrel contained a soap substance. 

Hazmat officials reported Marion Environmental will be on the scene to remove the barrel at no cost.
