CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -
A lengthy, high-speed police chase that began in East Ridge early Friday morning ended at the Chattanooga Volkswagen plant.
East Ridge police responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle about parked in a driveway on Connell Street 1:37am Friday .
Police spotted a black Ford Explorer parked at the rear of the home. The driver of the vehicle, Jason Hughes, 35, spoke with police, and as they were preparing to leave, the patrol officer noticed a problem with the vehicle's registration.
As the officer approached Hughes, the suspect drove away from the scene. Police attempted to stop Hughes and then gave chase as Hughes began to evade police.
The high-speed pursuit wove through neighborhoods and both Interstates I-24 and I-75. Hughes exited I-75 at Shallowford Road before he lost control of his vehicle near the Volkswagen campus, rolling the SUV and being ejected.
Police says the Ford Explorer was reported stolen from Ringgold.
Hughes was arrested and transported to a nearby hospital for examination and treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
He is scheduled to appear in East Ridge Court on February 10, 2015 on charges of Aggravated Assault on Police, Felony Evading, Theft Over $1,000, Reckless Driving, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Driving on a Revoked License. He is currently being held on a total bond of $87,500.
