PREVIOUS STORY: Chattanooga police are investigating the death of a woman, whose body was found in a scrap metal yard off of South Highland Park Avenue, Monday morning.

Neighboring business owners tell Channel 3 Eyewitness News while there is some level of crime in the area, they've never seen anything like this. They say employees working in the area are shaken up.

"It's just horrible, it's terrible," said Carl Hill, owner of C & W Cafe. "She was lying in the back of his lot and we don't know what happened to her or how she got back there."

On Tuesday, Officials with Chattanooga Police said they are still working to identify the deceased woman. The owner of the scrap metal property told Channel 3, he locks the front gate every night however the back end of the yard is accessible to everyone.

"From the way he was telling me she looked like she had been roughed up," said Hill.

According to a preliminary synopsis report obtained by Channel 3, detectives noted what seemed to be "Obvious signs of a struggle" about and near the body. Officials said that assessment has not yet been confirmed or denied by physical evidence.

"Everybody speculates and everybody just wonders but until you get to the bottom line and figure out what happened, it stays on your mind," said Hill.

Police say as with any deceased persons found, investigators treat the case like a homicide investigation until foul play is completely ruled out. Authorities are still waiting for the woman's identity and cause of death to be officially determined by a medical examiner.

"There is a family who has just lost their daughter and you know we have to pray for that family," said Hill. "Who knows where she's from, she hasn't been identified yet...so we would like to send out prayers to that family."

If you have any information that can help investigators, call the Chattanooga Police Department  at 423-698-2525.
