ROANE COUNTY - Health officials say prescription drug abuse in Tennessee is an epidemic, and taxpayers are shouldering much of the burden.A new report shows every taxpayer dollar spent on prescription drug abuse prevention programs in the state of Tennessee saves taxpayers, on average, more than four times that much later down the road.
That's because the public foots the bill on drug abuse when it comes to paying for prisons and health care.In some counties, that cost savings is even higher.In Roane County, for example, this new report shows every public dollar spent on drug abuse prevention saves taxpayers more than 14 times that much later.
