Potential threat puts local high school on lockdown

MARION COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -
Whitwell High School was placed on lockdown for a few hours Thursday afternoon, after several students came forward about a potential threat.
Last week a number of students told school officials about a student having a knife, according to the Marion County School Superintendent. The student was suspended. Then Thursday, students offered more tips that the suspended student planned on going on campus today with a gun, to "take care of another student." That's when the school was immediately placed on locked down. Officials do not believe there was ever any serious threat. Police and a disciplinary hearing authority are investigating.
