DAYTON (WRCB) - High School Bass Fishing Teams are being started all across the United States advancing the sport of bass fishing all the way to high school national championships.

Here on Chickamauga Lake is no different.

The city of Dayton and Bass Anglers Sportsmen Society have partnered up to host the first annual Battle of Chickamauga High School Open Bass Classic here on Chickamauga Lake.

Imagine high school bass anglers experiencing the thrill of a bass tournament as big as the Bassmaster Classic.

Rhea Economic and Tourism Council Director, Dennis Tumlin says" We want the students to feel like they are fishing the biggest event of their life! This event will be a High School Open that feels like the Bassmaster Classic.”

The Battle of Chickamauga High School Open Bass Classic will be held in Dayton, TN, March 28th 2015.

The format will be similar to that of a regular season high school Bass fishing tournament. The schools will be competing for a “Championship Belt” that stays with the winning school and must be defended each year of the event.

The first place team will earn $1,000 in college scholarship funding to any College or Trade School of choice and $1,000 in Bass Pro Shop gift cards.

The winning team will also earn an automatic spot into the Bassmaster High School Nationals later this year.

As this is a Bassmaster High School sanctioned event, all registrants must be registered with Bassmaster HS.  Cost per member is $20. This includes your B.A.S.S. and B.A.S.S. Nation membership.

Visit Bassmaster High School Registration page for more information.
