Armed gas station robber captured

Chattanooga police arrested a man Sunday night who admitted to robbing two gas station within an hour of each other Sunday night.

James Shirley, of Harrison, told police he robbed both the Kangaroo Gas Station at 4858 Highway 58 at about 5:19pm and the Murphy Gas Station at 5716 Highway 153 at about 6:08pm.

After he allegedly robbed the gas stations, victims were able to provide police a vehicle description and tag number.

Police spotted the suspect's vehicle in the 2800 block of Harrison Pike, where he was pulled over.

Inside Shirley's 1988 For Ranger, police found a loaded .357 revolver, a large amount of cash in his wallet and a paper bag with loose dollar bills inside.

Shirley was later identified by his robbery victims in a photo lineup.

He's currently being held on a $150,000 bond and faces a judge January 27 on two counts of aggravated robbery.
