Sex crimes detective testifies in ex-Vandy players' trial
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Nashville sex crimes detective has testified that pictures of what appeared to be an unconscious woman being dragged into a Vanderbilt University dorm room launched an investigation that led to collection of DNA evidence from nine football players.
Detective Jason Mayo testified Friday that he didn't know exactly what happened or who was involved in the June 2013 incident.
The testimony came during the fifth day of two ex-Vanderbilt football players being tried for rape. Four players are accused in the rape of an incapacitated coed in a dorm room. All have pleaded not guilty.
Prosecutors said the ex-players probably would have never been charged had it not been for vandalism at the dorm that prompted a look at the school's surveillance video.
