CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam plans to attend a public meeting next week in which Army officials will take public comments on proposed cuts at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Clarksville, Tennessee, Mayor Kim McMillan told The Leaf-Chronicle (http://leafne.ws/1IIZwnf) that while the congressional delegation couldn't make it to the Jan. 20 meeting due to the State of the Union address on the same date, Haslam would attend.

Community officials around the sprawling post on the Tennessee-Kentucky line have been urging residents and leaders to come to the meeting.

McMillan said Sens. Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker and Rep. Marsha Blackburn said they intend to have a representative present.

To meet smaller operating budgets, the Army is projecting a nationwide reduction in personnel strength from 490,000 to 450,000, and possibly as low as 420,000.
