CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -  Cars.com has awarded the 2015 Volkswagen Passat TDI clean diesel Eco-Friendly Car of the year.

The award was presented as part of Cars.com's annual Lifestyle Awards, held during the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.

"Volkswagen is committed to building the best eco-friendly vehicles for our customers. To have the Passat recognized for a second time by the editorial staff at Cars.com is a great honor," said Ulrich Heimann, Executive Vice President Finance & ITP, Volkswagen Chattanooga.

Cars.com recognized the Passat for its excellent efficiency and drivability without compromise, and cited the impressive highway mileage (44 mpg). The Passat won this same award from Cars.com in 2012.

The Chevrolet Volt, Honda Accord Hybrid, and Passat were all nominated for this award.

Nominees were selected based on ratings of Acceptable or higher in Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) crash tests, a reliability rating of average or higher, strong ride and handling, and average or better gas mileage in its segment.
