Robert Greene, the long-time Superintendent of Athens City Schools, has announced he is retiring.
Greene said this week he plans to retire at the end of the school year, after more than 40 years in education.
He began his career in Meigs County where he served as a teacher, coach, and eventually the Director of schools.
In 2010, he left his job as the Deputy Commissioner of Education for Tennessee, to take the Superintendent position in Athens where he spent the past 5 years.
Greene's retirement will be effective June 30th.
The school board has not discussed a timeline for filling his position.
Removing the city as a trustee makes no one responsible for the up-keep of the cemetery.
