Georgia to tackle film worker shortage with academy

Georgia will look to plug a worker shortage in the state's rapidly growing film industry with a new partnership between the university and technical college systems, Gov. Nathan Deal said Tuesday.

The governor formally announced the launching of the Georgia Film Academy, an idea first reported by Atlanta Business Chronicle Sept. 26.

"Producers will not wait if we delay," Deal said during the annual Eggs and Issues breakfast at the Georgia World Congress Center sponsored by the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. "They will simply film somewhere else. ... We cannot afford to let another state do to us what we're doing to Hollywood."
