CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

UPDATE: Captain Andrew Waters with the Fire Investigation Division said a candle left unattended on a dresser was the likely cause of the fire that damaged the home Tuesday morning.

The dollar loss was estimated at $50,000 for the building and contents.

A Tuesday morning fire caused “substantial” damage to an East Lake home.

Chattanooga Fire Department arrived at the Foust Street home shortly after 8:00am Tuesday, with flames and smoke shooting from the windows at the home, according to CFD Public Information Director Bruce Garner.

Firefighters were able to see the plume of smoke from several blocks away.

Additional firefighters were called in from different fire companies and they were able to get the fire under control within about 10 minutes.

The home was searched for occupants, but no one was in the home, with the family at work and school.

The fire also caused a great deal of damage to the home's contents as well.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
