NC man arrested after high-speed chase

CHEROKEE COUNTY, NC (WRCB) - A North Carolina man was arrested Friday, Jan. 9, for a variety of drug and traffic-related violations.

Leon Dockery, 55, was reported to the Cherokee County (NC) Sheriff's Office Friday night as being under the influence of an known substance at a home in the Marble community.

As deputies were enroute to the residence, they spotted Dockery's vehicle and gave chase to stop the vehicle.

According to a news release, Dockery's vehicle then sped up, and he began throwing items from the window of the truck. Other patrol cars joined in the chase.

Deputies say that Dockery committed multiple traffic offenses and reached speeds over 80 mph on rural roads as he attempt to evade them.

Once stopped, Dockery was arrested and deputies found nearly three pounds of marijuana was found packaged for resale inside of his vehicle.

Dockery was taken to the Cherokee County Detention Center and booked on the following charges:
  • Failure to heed light and siren    
  • Flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle
  • Maintain place controlled substance
  • Possess with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver marijuana
  • Reckless driving to endanger
  • Resisting public officer

Dockery is currently being detained at the Cherokee County Detention Center under $54,000.00 secure bond and has a January 21, 2015 Cherokee County District Court date.
