President to propose 2 years of free community college for anyone willing to 'work for it'"

The state's “Tennessee Promise” legislation is being touted as one of the examples for President Obama's new proposal, “America's College Program”.

The President will be in Knoxville Friday to promote this new proposal. Tennessee was chosen because of the hard work done to open up the doors to a college education to more middle-class students in Tennessee.

The America's College Promise proposal makes two years of community college free for responsible students, letting students earn the first half of a bachelor's degree and earn skills needed in the workforce at no cost.

If all states participate, an estimated 9 million students could benefit. A full-time community college student could save an average of $3,800 in tuition per year.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News will be in Knoxville covering the President's visit.

Vice President Biden, his wife, Jill, Senator Bob Corker and other guests will accompany the President to Tennessee.
