CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -
Good Tuesday. We keep talking about the cold air moving in, but today will actually be a bit WARMER than it was yesterday.
The approaching cold front that is going to give our water pipes a run for their money will actually give us some light southerly winds this afternoon which will allow temperatures to get about 5 degrees higher than yesterday afternoon. Yesterday the high was 42 in Chattanooga. Today the high should get to about 47 (still below the average high of 50). Expect mostly sunny skies this afternoon.
Tonight, we will drop back into the mid 20s by Wednesday morning. However, the cold air will rapidly move in during the day. Highs will only reach the upper 20s and low 30s early Wednesday afternoon. We may see a flurry or two as the front moves through then temperatures will begin to drop like a rock through the night into Thursday.
We will likely already see temperatures falling into the teens by 9pm Wednesday. They will continue plummeting into the single digits and low teens by Thursday morning. The record low for Chattanooga is 6 degrees. I think we will stay at least a few degrees above that. Thursday afternoon will see a bone-jarring high of only 28.
There are many folks that will see temperatures remain below freezing from Wednesday morning through early Friday afternoon.
We will get little relief Friday and Saturday. The low will be 22 both mornings, and the high will reach 38 Friday and 41 Saturday.
Sunday we have another system moving in. We will start with a low of 30 Sunday and could see some light mixed precipitation to start the day. Temps will rapidly warm into the 40s in the afternoon so it will quickly change to light rain showers through the day.
