Heavy rain prompts flood warnings in Georgia

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - Forecasters are warning of potential flash flooding following recent heavy rain throughout parts of Georgia.

National Weather Service forecasters said Sunday that recent rain could lead to flooding in streams, low lying areas and areas with poor drainage systems. Officials say up to two inches of rain have fallen in metro Atlanta, and could lead to flash floods in parts of Forsyth, Cherokee, northeastern Fulton and northeastern Cobb counties.

Meteorologists say some areas of northwest Georgia also saw close to three inches of rain, which was expected to stop by the late afternoon.

National Weather Service officials said in a report that high wind had toppled several trees in DeKalb County.

Georgia Power's online outage map said more than 1,400 customers were without service late Sunday morning.
