UPDATE: Woman identified in deadly McDonald train crash
One woman is dead and another injured after being struck by a train in McDonald, Tenn. early Friday morning.
Bradley County officials say 30-year-old Meagan Snyder died at Erlanger. Another woman, 37-year-old Shana Parker, remains hospitalized at SkyRidge Medical Center.
A Norfolk Southern train struck the two victims around 4:15 a.m. near the intersection of B Ave. and South McDonald Rd.
The two women both live within .5 mile of the accident site.
"Detectives working with railroad investigators will determine what the circumstances were for them to be in the area. But at this time we do not know," said Chief Deputy Brain Smith with the Bradley County Sheriff's Department.
Stan Clark with Bradley County EMS said Snyder was unresponsive and taken to Erlanger where she later died.
"The patient was a considerable distance down the railroad tracks, so they had to gather their equipment and walk a good ways to get her," Clark said. "It appears somehow she was struck and thrown to the side versus a direct hit obviously."
Bradley County Sheriff's Office, Bradley County EMS and Norfolk Southern officials were on scene.
