Karen Lawrence Run: A New Year's Eve tradition in Downtown Chattanooga

Posted: Updated:

There was a section of downtown Chattanooga blocked off Wednesday night but it wasn't for New Year's eve parties.

The Karen Lawrence Run has been held on New Year's Eve in downtown Chattanooga for the last 36-years.  The run benefits our local Ronald McDonald House.

Karen Lawrence started the race at age 11, after fighting a form of leukemia for over a year. Karen lost her battle, and the family proudly carried on her tradition. Something they say they will continue to do.

Kim Kinley-Lawrence,  Karen's twin sister, "For us, it's awesome. Because it's us reliving Karen's life and it's a feel good thing, one of those pay it forward things every one talks about.  But yet as my brother would say, we get to revisit her."

Organizers tell us they had over 300 pre-register at this year's event.
