A Hamilton County corrections officer is facing a DUI charge after a Christmas Eve arrest in Memphis.

Amara Johnson, 24, works as a corrections officer for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department.

WMC-TV in Memphis reports Johnson hit a pole and flipped her car on its hood around 10:30 p.m. December 24.

A source tells Channel 3 Johnson was visiting family in Memphis and driving to the store when the accident happened.

Johnson was not taken to the hospital after the single car accident. Instead, she was taken to the Shelby County Jail where she was booked on charges of DUI, possession of a handgun while intoxicated, public intoxication, reckless driving and violation of financial law.

Johnson had a $2,000 bond and was released from jail Christmas day.

Johnson is due in Shelby County court Monday, Dec 29.

Channel 3 has reached out to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department for comment.
