East Brainerd Elementary School will open in its new location in August 2015.  It will be at the site of the old David Brainerd School on Goodwin Road.

For the past several years, East Brainerd has been operating out of the David Brainerd property, as well as the original school on East Brainerd Road.

The new $23 million school, with two stories and 145,000 square feet will be fully wireless, with geothermal heating and air, and large play areas.  The city of Chattanooga has built a new roundabout on Goodwin Road to help with traffic.

The capacity of the new school will be 1,100 students, and could be "almost full on opening day," according to Superintendent Rick Smith.  The construction is part a continuing effort to keep up with population growth in the eastern part of the county.

Proceeds from the eventual sale of the old school property will likely be used for countywide educational programs.  The recent $2.2 million sale of the old Ooltewah Elementary property is being eyed for school security camera improvements.
