TN retirement community gives away 3K computers

Posted: Updated:

LOUDON, TN (AP) - A retirement community in eastern Tennessee says it has delivered more than 3,000 computers donated to students in the last seven years.

A 30-member club made up of residents of the Tellico Village community near Loudon has been refurbishing computers to donate to students since 2007. Tellico village says in a release that the Technology Access Program has delivered more than 3,200 computers to about 5,300 students since the club's inception.

Susan Fox, the family resource director for Lenoir City Schools, said in the release that the volunteers are "unsung heroes" for helping bring up-to-date technology to students in the area.

The Technology Access Program is a certified Microsoft partner, which allows the group to obtain discounted software and lower overall costs.
