CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - It wouldn't be Christmas without “The Nutcracker.”

The enchanting Christmas ballet, with its world of toys and amazing adventures, was recently performed by students of Tennessee Youth Ballet under the direction of artistic director Heidi Longwith.

Capacity crowds filled Lee University's Dixon Center for four performances as gliding angels, toy soldiers, flurries of snowflakes and visions of sugarplums graced the stage.

“The Nutcracker” tells the story of Clara, a beautiful girl who receives a Nutcracker doll from her toymaker godfather on Christmas Eve. After the doll is smashed by her brother Fritz, Clara encounters mischievous mice before embarking on a journey through the Land of Snow and Kingdom of Sweets.

Young and old alike experienced the production's many special effects and dazzling costumes as they were transported to the captivating world of “The Nutcracker.”

During two separate performances, the gasps of more than 900 wide-eyed students from both public and private schools could be heard as they were transported to a magical Christmas dreamland.
