Forever Family: Cleveland family celebrate gift of adoption

CLEVELAND, TN (WRCB) - A Cleveland family is celebrating the gift of adoption this season.

The Mullis family finalized the adoption of 3-year-old Jeffrey Jackson Mullis.

Everyone calls him JJ and he's surrounded by a loving family and lots of friends.

As judge Jerri Bryant made it official, it was quick and easy in court, but years in the making. JJ has been in the loving care of Sheena and Adam Mullis for two and a half years.

"It's just been such a blessing we got in it to help others but JJ has brought a lot to our family. A lot of blessing that we didn't imagine was gonna come from it," said Adam Mullis, Dad.

"We just wanted to help other kids. And just give them a chance, we have three biological we thought we could do good by helping others," said Sheena Mullis, Mom.

JJ's sister and brothers couldn't be happier.

"Awesome I guess. He's probably the coolest brother I have, no offense! Now you have three brothers. I'm the only girl. It's cool though," said Sara Mullis, 12-year-old sister.

Sara and brothers, Adam and Simon are sharing in the family's happiness.

"It's been amazing. It's brought our family closer together, the way our kids have stepped up. Being able to reach out and help others it's amazing," said Adam Mullis.

Their first foster child is on her own now and still close to the family.

"I'm very happy. I love JJ, I'm so happy its finally happened. I'm so happy," said Tawnya Prouty, Mullis' First Foster Child.

The family has a Christmas message for anyone considering foster care and adoption.

"I would just say if you can open your home and your heart do it, because they need someone to stand up for them. And to love them," said Sheena Mullis.

I would encourage everybody to give it a chance. Because you could end up like this. With him," said Adam Mullis.
