UPDATE: The cases against a man accused in separate rape cases of two women in their 60's has been sent to a grand jury.

Derrick Caldwell  is currently in the Hamilton County Jail on a 450-thousand dollar bond.

Investigators have linked the man charged in two separate rapes to an earlier incident of aggravated sexual battery.

Derrick Dewayne Caldwell, 30, is now charged with aggravated sexual battery in addition to two counts of aggravated rape and three counts of aggravated burglary.

Police say Caldwell raped two women in two separate neighborhoods on December 10 and December 11.

Now they say he's responsible for breaking into a woman's home in October and trying to have sex with her.

According to the affidavit, "the suspect then told her that he had some issues, had not had sex in one year, and just needed sex."

The suspect left the victim's house after she threatened that her brother would soon arrive.

"You promise you won't call the police?" the suspect reportedly asked as he left the residence.

But the victim called police and provided a detailed physical description of the suspect and his clothing.

Red Bank police stopped Caldwell for a field interview hours after the incident. Police wrote in the affidavit that he matched the suspect description and he was photographed but never arrested.

Following his arrest for aggravated rape, investigators with the Chattanooga Police Department tacked on the additional charges of aggravated sexual battery and aggravated burglary from the October incident.

Caldwell was due in court Monday but his case got reset to January 15.

He remains in the Hamilton County Jail facing the following charges:

  • (3) Aggravated burglary
  • (2) Aggravated rape
  • (1) Aggravated sexual battery
